Coal deposits are distributed underground in the Assembly line world. If the deposit is right beneath the ground surface, it's possible to build a Coal mine atop of it. The deeper deposits can be reached with Drill extensions.
At first the deep deposits are invisible. To locate them, the Underground sonars are needed.
